Investigation Launched into 2,500 Potentially Fraudulent Voter Registrations in Pennsylvania

Officials in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, are investigating approximately 2,500 voter registrations following reports from election workers who identified suspicious applications. The registrations were submitted in two batches just before the state’s voter registration deadline on Monday.

During a press conference on Friday, District Attorney Heather Adams outlined the irregularities that raised alarms among election workers. These included multiple applications featuring identical handwriting, signatures that did not match existing records, and incorrect personal information such as names, addresses, and social security and driver's license numbers. Additionally, investigators have spoken to some individuals who claimed they had neither requested nor completed the forms that were submitted.

This investigation comes as voting is already underway in Pennsylvania, a crucial battleground state for both presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Lancaster County, which has a significant Amish population, overwhelmingly supported Trump in the 2020 election, voting for him by nearly 16 points.

Adams revealed that her office has not yet reviewed all applications but noted that approximately 60% of those examined so far appear to be fraudulent. She also mentioned that some legitimate applications were included in the batches and would be processed accordingly.

The fraudulent registrations are believed to be linked to a large-scale canvassing group, though Adams did not disclose the organization's name. She also indicated that two other counties in Pennsylvania are facing similar issues. It has been confirmed that the canvassers were compensated for their efforts, a common practice in such operations. However, officials did not provide details regarding any partisan affiliations related to the applications.

“It really shouldn’t matter. If there are voters on the books that shouldn’t be, it increases the chance that we’re going to have voter fraud,” said Adams.

This announcement follows recent accusations that Lancaster County improperly delayed processing voter registration applications from students.
