Minnesota Governor Tim Walz delivered an inspiring speech in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Friday, urging supporters to mobilize in the final 11 days leading up to the presidential election, which sees Kamala Harris competing against Donald Trump. Speaking to a crowd at the Scranton Cultural Center, Walz likened the critical closing days of the campaign to the last quarter of a football game, drawing from his experience as a high school teacher and coach.
“It’s going to be tight. It’s the fourth quarter. We have the best team on the field,” Walz emphasized, encouraging his audience to engage in grassroots efforts. “We’ve got to do this one inch at a time, one yard at a time, one door at a time, one call at a time, one dollar at a time, one vote at a time.”
The rally took place as polling data indicates a closely contested race between Harris and Trump, particularly in Pennsylvania, which could be pivotal in the electoral college. According to recent reports, Harris leads Trump by less than a percentage point in the state, making every vote crucial.
Walz warned of the “dangerous complacency” surrounding the threat posed by Trump, stressing the urgency of their campaign efforts. “We are running like everything is on the line because everything is on the line. It is. We feel it. You know it,” he declared. He reiterated Harris's message from a recent town hall, which highlighted alarming comments from Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, regarding the ex-president’s admiration for historical dictators.
In a pointed remark, Walz noted, “Maybe Donald forgot that Hitler and his generals were on the other side of this thing, and it was the sons of Minnesota and Pennsylvania that were carrying the stars and stripes, that kicked his ass and saved this world from fascism.”
Walz, known for his upbeat demeanor, has adopted a more combative tone in the final days of the campaign. He recently criticized Elon Musk, referring to him as a “dipshit” during a speech in Wisconsin and reiterated the remark in Scranton, eliciting cheers from the audience.
In addition to rallying support for Harris, Walz paid tribute to Joe Biden, a native of Scranton, saying, “This country owes a huge debt to you and a huge debt to Joe Biden.” His remarks were met with applause, with the crowd chanting “Joe!” in response.
Attendees expressed their optimism for the Harris-Walz ticket. Michael McNulty, a local voter, emphasized a sense of hope for the future. “They’re sharing a vision for the future of the country that is one I want to live in. It’s one that I want to raise my children in,” he said, confidently predicting a Harris victory in Pennsylvania.
As the race tightens, supporters are rallying behind the Harris-Walz campaign, eager to push their ticket over the finish line.
