John Amos' Daughter Shannon Reveals She Learned of Father's Death Through Media

Shannon Amos, daughter of late Hollywood actor John Amos, recently shared that she discovered her father’s passing through the media, adding that he had died 45 days before the announcement. John Amos, best known for his iconic role as James Evans Sr. on Good Times, passed away on August 21 in Los Angeles at the age of 84. His death, from natural causes, was publicly confirmed by his son, K.C., on October 1.

Shannon expressed her shock and grief in an emotional message on social media, writing, "I am without words… Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21st. We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you." She added that while her family is grappling with many uncertainties surrounding his passing, they find some peace in knowing he is now free.

Shannon's statement also reflected gratitude for the support her family had received: "My family and I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love, calls, and texts. Please continue to hold our family in your thoughts and prayers."

Amos' death came amid a publicly aired family conflict. In November 2023, Shannon had accused her brother K.C. of elder abuse, a claim he strongly denied. Shannon provided extensive documentation to law enforcement in Colorado and New Jersey to back her allegations, claiming K.C. had isolated their father, taken control of his affairs, and mismanaged his finances. She also alleged that her brother impersonated their father in communications and neglected his medical needs, impacting not only her but also their father's grandchildren and longtime friends.

K.C., who is working on a documentary titled America’s Dad, refuted these claims, accusing Shannon of trying to tarnish his reputation. The family rift, made public in the months leading up to John Amos' death, has added complexity to the mourning process as the family continues to navigate these legal and personal disputes.
