The Kano State Hisbah Board has declared Auwal Sankara, the suspended Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State, wanted due to an alleged illicit affair with a married woman. This announcement was made by Aminu Daurawa, the Commander-General of Hisbah, on Monday, October 21.
Daurawa explained that Sankara failed to respond to an invitation for reconciliation following his arrest last week, during which he was reportedly discovered in an uncompleted building with the woman in question. In light of the allegations, Umar Namadi, the Governor of Jigawa State, suspended Sankara to facilitate a fair investigation.
After his arrest, Sankara was granted bail under the condition that he would appear before the Hisbah command when requested. However, his absence from a scheduled reconciliation meeting on Monday led to his declaration as wanted by the Hisbah Board.
"The reason we invited him today was for reconciliation," Daurawa stated to reporters in Kano. "The complainant agreed to reconcile with Sankara due to his two children. We accepted this and invited him to attend the reconciliation."
Daurawa emphasized that had Sankara appeared, they could have resolved the issue without resorting to legal proceedings. He further noted, "As Hisbah members, Islam guides us, and it promotes reconciliation. However, it appears he does not want reconciliation, so we will move forward with legal action."
In response to the allegations, Sankara has characterized them as “false, malicious, and baseless,” and he has expressed his intent to pursue legal action against those he believes are attempting to tarnish his reputation.
