LASTMA Dismisses Six Officers for Misconduct Following CSC Directive

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has terminated the employment of six officials in line with directives from the Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC). The move aims to reinforce discipline and improve operational efficiency within the agency.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday, signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq. According to Bakare-Oki, the dismissals followed the Personnel Management Board's findings, which identified severe misconduct and inefficiencies among the officers.

"Formal disciplinary notices were served to the officers at LASTMA's headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos," Bakare-Oki stated. He added that the CSC fully endorsed the recommendations of the Personnel Management Board, which detailed serious violations of conduct and general inefficiencies.

The general manager stressed that the actions taken were in strict adherence to the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations. He also announced that the agency would soon hold another session of the Personnel Management Board to address additional cases of misconduct among LASTMA officers. Bakare-Oki reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to purging the agency of errant staff and encouraged Lagos residents to engage with the agency by reporting misconduct with evidence.

"This is part of an ongoing exercise to rid the agency of erring officers. Another board session will be held soon to review more cases of misconduct," Bakare-Oki noted.

He also urged road users in Lagos to follow traffic regulations, warning that violations would result in penalties, including fines imposed by Lagos Mobile Courts, as stipulated by law.

Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of traffic management in achieving the "Greater Lagos" vision, as outlined in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda. He highlighted that traffic management and transportation, the first pillar of the agenda, are critical to its success.

LASTMA reassured the public of its commitment to responding to complaints and feedback promptly, while striving to improve services for the benefit of Lagos residents.
