Liam Neeson Announces Plans to Retire from Action Films by 2025

Liam Neeson, the iconic actor known for his role in the Taken series, has revealed that he will retire from action movies by 2025. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 72-year-old star shared his thoughts on stepping away from action-packed roles, acknowledging that it's time to move on. "I'm 72 — it has to stop at some stage," Neeson stated.

Throughout his career, Neeson has been known for performing many of his own fight scenes, though he works with stunt double Mark Vanselow for more dangerous stunts. However, Neeson admitted that it's becoming harder to convincingly play action heroes at his age. "You can’t fool audiences," he said, explaining that he doesn't want to depend heavily on his stunt double for the majority of action sequences.

Interestingly, Neeson didn’t break into the action genre until 2008, at the age of 56, when he starred as a retired CIA agent in Taken. The film's success turned him into a household name in the world of action films.

As Neeson prepares to wrap up his action career, he's expressed contentment with how things have unfolded. Despite stepping away from high-intensity roles, he isn't leaving the screen completely. Neeson recently finished filming a reboot of the comedy Naked Gun, signaling that fans will continue to see him in different genres.

While Father Time remains undefeated, Neeson’s long-lasting career serves as a testament to his versatility and enduring appeal as he transitions away from the action spotlight.
