Lisa Marie Presley’s posthumous memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, released on October 8, shares personal insights into her romantic relationship with the late Michael Jackson.
Presley and Jackson first met when they were young but began dating in 1994. At the time, Presley was still married to her first husband, Danny Keough. Their marriage ended after Jackson expressed his feelings for her during a trip to Las Vegas. In the memoir, Presley recalls Jackson saying, “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m completely in love with you. I want us to get married and for you to have my children.” This confession prompted Presley to reflect on her own feelings for him, admitting, “I’m really flattered, I can’t even talk. By then, I felt I was in love with him too.”
After that trip, Presley and Keough ended their marriage amicably, allowing her to pursue a relationship with Jackson. In her memoir, she shares that during their time together, Jackson claimed to be a virgin, stating he had only kissed a few people, including actress Tatum O'Neal, and had a non-physical relationship with Brooke Shields. Presley writes, “I was terrified because I didn't want to make the wrong move.”
The couple married in May 1994, shortly after Presley’s divorce from Keough, with Presley being 25 and Jackson 35 at the time. Their marriage lasted just over two years before they divorced in August 1996.
Tragically, Jackson passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 due to cardiac arrest, while Presley died earlier this year at age 54 from complications related to bariatric surgery.
After Presley’s death, her daughter, actress Riley Keough, helped complete the memoir by listening to recordings of her mother’s memories, ensuring that Lisa Marie’s voice and stories live on.
