Manchester United are making swift progress toward appointing Ruben Amorim as their new manager following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag. Talks between United and Sporting Lisbon are reportedly advancing smoothly, with the club eager to finalize an agreement soon.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who stepped in as interim manager, is expected to lead the team for only a single match. He took on the temporary role this Monday after Ten Hag’s departure and is set to oversee United's midweek fixture.
According to The Times, Manchester United are hopeful that Amorim will be in place to manage the team for their upcoming Premier League encounter this Sunday against Chelsea. Portuguese outlet A Bola has further reported that United will send a delegation of three officials to Lisbon to expedite negotiations and secure an agreement with Amorim right after Sporting’s next match.
Manchester United's management reportedly aims for Amorim to take on full coaching duties by Sunday’s game at Old Trafford, rather than simply observing. The high-stakes match against Chelsea will be a key test as United seeks to recover from a challenging start to the season. Currently placed 14th in the league standings, United's record under Ten Hag comprised three wins, two draws, and four losses.
This managerial change marks a decisive moment for the Red Devils as they look to stabilize and improve their performance in the Premier League.
