Nigeria to Concession Five Major International Airports, Says Aviation Minister Keyamo

Festus Keyamo, Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has announced plans to concession five key international airports across the country. This decision was made during a meeting with the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) Regional Vice President for Africa and the Middle East at the Ministry's headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement released by the Ministry's spokesman, Odutayo Oluseyi, Keyamo identified the airports set for concession as the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Port Harcourt International Airport, Aminu Kano International Airport, and Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

Keyamo expressed appreciation to IATA for its interest in providing advisory support during this critical phase of the concession process. He underscored the urgent need to address the deteriorating infrastructure within Nigeria's aviation sector, noting that the concession would enhance efficiency and service delivery.

“Given Nigeria's geographical location, the country is well-positioned to become the aviation hub for Africa and beyond,” Keyamo stated. He encouraged both local and foreign investors to explore opportunities within the aviation sector, emphasizing that it is primed for investment.

The minister also called on IATA to reach out to other potential investors, assuring them that President Bola Tinubu's administration is committed to transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector to meet international standards. He highlighted recent positive developments, including the return of Italian Airlines and the United Arab Emirates airline, as indicators of progress in Nigeria's aviation landscape.

Keyamo reaffirmed the government's commitment to opening the market to all operators, indicating that the aviation sector is on the brink of significant transformation.
