The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it generated N4.2 billion in revenue during the first nine months of 2024. This was revealed by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, at a workshop in Lagos on Saturday.
Adeniyi, who was represented by Dera Nnadi, the Comptroller of the Tincan Island Port Command, highlighted the significant progress made in revenue generation, noting that the service had already surpassed the total revenue collected in both 2022 and 2023.
"Our aim is to exceed the 2024 revenue target of N5.3 trillion by the end of the year," Adeniyi said. He further explained that the NCS has already exceeded its 2023 collection by over N1 trillion, despite the year not being over yet.
"This reflects the substantial progress we have achieved, thanks to the implementation of digital technology. For comparison, in 2022, the service collected N2.6 trillion, demonstrating consistent growth," he added.
The use of digitalization, ICT, and innovative business processes has been key to the NCS's improved efficiency and revenue generation.
It is worth noting that Nigeria’s total revenue for 2023 stood at N12.37 trillion, according to the Federal Inland Revenue Service. The NCS continues to play a crucial role in bolstering Nigeria's economy through enhanced customs operations.
