Nollywood actress Somkele Idhalama has officially joined the cast of the American sci-fi television series Star Trek: Discovery. In a recent Instagram post, Idhalama shared her excitement about portraying the character known as "The Progenitor."
The actress, who hails from Delta State, revealed that she was initially cast in a different role but had to decline due to contracting COVID-19. In her post, she wrote, "Guess who and guess where? It is yours truly on the set of Star Trek as The Progenitor. Interesting fact: I auditioned for this show for a good minute. Finally got a cool role, then I got COVID and had to pull out. Then I got another audition for ‘The Progenitor,’ which ended up being the crowning moment of the episode, season, and show finale. God has plans, and those plans are solid! Keep believing."
Star Trek: Discovery, created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman, aired on Paramount+ from 2017 to 2024, making it the seventh series in the Star Trek franchise.
Idhalama first gained recognition for her role in the Ndani TV series Gidi Up and has appeared in popular films such as The Wedding Party and The Arbitration. In 2016, she starred alongside Hollywood veteran Danny Glover in the biopic 93 Days, where she portrayed one of the surviving doctors who contracted Ebola in Nigeria.
