The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported that troops involved in Operation Udoka have apprehended a man believed to be a founding member of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The announcement was made during a biweekly press briefing held on Thursday.
According to Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, the suspect, identified as Pius Iguh, was arrested in Orsu, Imo State. Buba stated that Iguh is a significant figure within IPOB, specifically responsible for activities in the Orsu region.
In a separate operation, troops from the Forward Operational Base (FOB) in Amaruku conducted a successful raid on a location associated with another IPOB commander, resulting in the arrest of Emmanuel Onwugu in Mbano Local Government Area of Abia State.
Additionally, the DHQ reported the capture of Ifeanyi Rock, described as a notorious cult leader, along with ten of his commanders in the Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State. The operations were carried out in collaboration with other security forces.
These arrests are part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to combat criminal activities linked to IPOB and its affiliates in the South-East region. The DHQ continues to emphasize its commitment to maintaining security and order in the area.
