Outrage in Kenya as Citizens Give President Ruto 48-Hour Resignation Ultimatum

 

Kenya is witnessing widespread public discontent as citizens have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to President William Ruto, demanding his resignation and the formation of a new government committed to “transparency, accountability, and good governance.”

A viral Twitter statement calling for Ruto’s resignation has sparked significant attention, stating, “We no longer recognise William Ruto as the President of Kenya. We recall his presidency and urge him to immediately resign and surrender his office to the Kenyan people.” The post has garnered substantial engagement, reflecting a deepening sense of dissatisfaction across the country.

Despite President Ruto’s recent withdrawal of a controversial finance bill, which proposed tax increases to address Kenya's massive debt of approximately 10 trillion shillings ($78 billion), public outrage remains at an all-time high. The proposed tax hike, intended to cover critical development programs for farmers and teachers, faced fierce opposition from citizens grappling with economic instability and high living costs.

Kenya has been experiencing ongoing struggles with unemployment, corruption, and governance issues, which have contributed to the growing frustration. The mounting public anger has resulted in protests, with demonstrators accusing the government of incompetence and failing to address the nation’s pressing problems.
