President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has delivered a firm ultimatum to bandits, terrorists, and other criminal groups operating in Nigeria, urging them to surrender or face decisive action from the government. Speaking at a lecture organized by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, the President, represented by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, made it clear that the era of insecurity would not be tolerated any longer.
"Enough is enough. This has to stop. And it will stop," President Tinubu declared, stressing that these criminal elements have "limited time" to comply.
The event, themed “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Dissecting Nigeria’s challenges – genesis, impacts, and options,” addressed the growing security threats in the region. President Tinubu stated that while non-violent approaches to security issues are still relevant, criminal groups must act swiftly to surrender. "Our windows and doors are open if they are ready to come and surrender and stop; otherwise, they know what is going to happen," he warned.
He emphasized that the government has developed both military and non-military strategies to tackle insecurity, with institutions in place to promote accountability and address the root causes of violence through job creation, infrastructure, and social services.
As Chair of ECOWAS, Tinubu is also focusing on strengthening regional cooperation and intelligence-sharing with neighboring countries to combat security challenges in the Sahel. He commended the Nigerian armed forces for their renewed offensive against criminal elements in the Northeast and Northwest, assuring citizens that the government will continue to provide the necessary resources for security operations.
Reflecting on recent successes, Tinubu noted the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram commanders and a decline in kidnapping cases, warning that criminal leaders who refuse to surrender will face the same fate.
