VIDEO - Pastor Adeboye Apologizes for Previous Comment on Tithing and Heaven

Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has issued an apology for his previous statement claiming that those who do not pay tithe will not make it to heaven. His comments, made during a televised message, have sparked widespread discussion, particularly after the video began trending on X.

In his address, Pastor Adeboye acknowledged the error, saying, "I want to apologize for making a mistake, for saying that if you don't pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven. Sorry, that's wrong." His apology prompted a notable reaction from the congregation.

He clarified his new stance, explaining that the Bible does not make such a claim about tithing. Instead, he referenced scripture, stating, “What the Bible says is 'be at peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.'"

The pastor elaborated on the complexity of being both right and wrong at the same time, drawing a parallel between common misconceptions in science and misunderstandings in spiritual teachings. "For years, we thought that light travels in a straight line... but later on, we discovered it travels in waves,” he explained, showing how our understanding evolves over time.

Despite his correction on tithing, Pastor Adeboye suggested that while beginners can start with giving 10 percent, more seasoned believers should aim to give more. "It is wrong to limit you to ten percent," he said, suggesting some should give 20 or 30 percent based on their level of spiritual maturity.

His remarks have since continued to stir conversations among both members of the church and the wider public.
