Protesters Arrested at #EndSARS Memorial Rally in Lagos

Protesters commemorating the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS movement were arrested by officers of the Lagos State Police Command during a memorial rally at the Lekki Tollgate.

The protesters had gathered at the tollgate to honor the nationwide protests that took place in 2020, demanding an end to police brutality. As the group approached the site, they were met by armed police officers who warned them against holding the rally at the location. Despite the warnings, the officers fired teargas canisters to disperse the crowd.

Shortly after, another group of activists arrived to continue the memorial walk. Police officers stationed at the tollgate responded by arresting about 20 individuals, including Taiwo Soweto, a prominent leader of the #EndBadGovernance movement.

The arrested protesters were reportedly locked inside a police van, marking a tense moment in the remembrance of the historic protests.
