Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to enhance their commitment to mental health awareness in a message commemorating World Mental Health Day. As the First Lady of Nigeria, she emphasized the importance of seeking early medical help and counseling for mental health issues.
This year’s theme, “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” highlights the growing need for mental health support, especially in professional settings. Senator Tinubu pointed out that many individuals experience dissatisfaction at work for various reasons, which can significantly impact their mental well-being.
In her statement, she remarked, “Emotions bottled up can lead to mental health issues and challenges that confront individuals.” She stressed that if fears of stigma were alleviated, more people would feel comfortable discussing their struggles, leading to early diagnoses and improved recovery outcomes.
“With love and support, mental health issues can be drastically reduced within and outside the workplace,” she added. Senator Tinubu urged everyone to commit to increasing mental health awareness and encouraged individuals to seek help and counseling at the first signs of distress.
“Please be your brother’s keeper for a safer society,” she concluded, calling for collective action to foster a supportive environment for mental health.
