Sonia, the ex-wife of Nigerian footballer Jude Ighalo, has publicly requested that his family provide an account where the bride price paid during their wedding can be returned.
According to Sonia, the return of the 24 Naira bride price has become complicated due to demands that her father, currently residing in the United States, must personally return it. She revealed that her father had not only sponsored the wedding but also gave Jude half of the bride price to assist in taking care of her, as she is his only daughter.
Sonia also shared a prayer on social media, saying, "May we never encounter evil mothers-in-law, in Jesus’ name, Amen," hinting at a strained relationship with her former in-laws.
The situation has drawn public attention, highlighting the traditional complexities surrounding bride price and marriage dissolution in Nigerian culture.
