Nigeria's Super Eagles clinched a narrow 1-0 victory against Libya in Uyo on Saturday, pushing their tally to seven points from three games in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Libya, adopting a defensive approach in hopes of securing a draw, held off Nigeria for most of the match. However, the Super Eagles' persistence was rewarded in the 86th minute.
Substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who entered the game in the 74th minute, capitalized on a well-placed cross from Moses Simon, slotting the ball into the net and sending fans at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium into a frenzy of celebration.
The win is the second for interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen in three AFCON 2025 qualifiers, despite Nigeria’s struggles with poor finishing and a controversial offside call that nearly cost them crucial points.
The Super Eagles will now prepare to face Libya again on Tuesday for their fourth Group D match in Benina.
