Nollywood veteran Fred Amata has publicly condemned his ex-wife, Agatha, for taking their daughter, Stephanie, down the aisle during her wedding while he is still alive. This incident has raised questions and sparked discussions about familial roles in marriage ceremonies.
Last week, Agatha shared photos and a video of Stephanie’s wedding, where she walked their daughter to meet her groom, Aaron, a Caucasian. Many were surprised by Fred's absence, especially since he had presented a united front with Agatha at their son Oreva’s wedding in Nigeria last year.
In a lengthy Facebook post, Fred described Agatha's actions as an "abomination," stating that it goes against tradition. He emphasized that it is uncommon in Africa, particularly in Delta State, for a mother to give away her daughter in marriage when the father is alive and actively involved in their life.
Fred also expressed frustration over being excluded from the wedding planning, questioning why the details were kept from him despite his earlier blessing for the marriage. He shared fond memories of Stephanie and Aaron's visit to him before the wedding and reflected on his contributions to Agatha’s career, particularly highlighting his role in creating the successful talk show “Inside-Out with Agatha.”
In his post, he recounted the challenges he faced during their 20-year marriage, detailing how he felt Agatha had exploited his name and achievements for her own gain. He wrote, "For over 20 years, I kept silent, allowing the 'good wife' to belittle my accomplishments while benefiting from my efforts."
Fred criticized Agatha for what he perceives as her manipulation and disregard for traditional family dynamics. He concluded his post by calling for recognition of his role as a father and questioning Agatha's motivations for her actions. “What kind of 'good wife' does a thing like this simply to make a man look bad?” he asked.
This public statement has reignited discussions about parental roles in weddings and the complexities of blended family dynamics in Nigeria.
