Victor Boniface Shines as Bayer Leverkusen Edges Out AC Milan in Champions League Showdown

Nigerian international Victor Boniface was the standout performer on Tuesday night, scoring the decisive goal in Bayer Leverkusen's 1-0 victory over AC Milan in a thrilling Champions League match at the BayArena.

Leverkusen began the match with intensity, creating an early chance in the 3rd minute when Piero Hincapie's powerful header was expertly saved by Milan's goalkeeper, Mike Maignan. The home side continued to apply pressure, and in the 21st minute, Boniface appeared to have found the back of the net with a clinical strike into the bottom corner following a brilliant cross from Jeremie Frimpong. However, the goal was disallowed after a VAR review indicated an offside, leaving the home fans feeling frustrated.

As the game progressed, both teams had their opportunities to seize control. AC Milan’s Tammy Abraham claimed a penalty in the 41st minute, but the referee waved play on, much to the dismay of the visiting side.

Leverkusen maintained their attacking momentum, with Florian Wirtz and Frimpong forcing crucial saves from Maignan early in the second half. The breakthrough finally came in the 51st minute when Boniface capitalized on a rebound from a saved shot, slotting the ball into an empty net to give Leverkusen a well-deserved lead.

Despite AC Milan's efforts to equalize, including a stunning shot from Theo Hernandez that struck the crossbar in the 82nd minute, Leverkusen's defense held strong. The victory secured all three points for the home side, marking a significant achievement in their Champions League campaign.
