VIDEO: Building Collapse in Abuja Traps Over 40 People

A significant building collapse in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has left at least 40 individuals trapped under the debris. The incident occurred on Saturday, prompting emergency responders and sympathizers to rush to the scene to assist in rescue efforts.

According to reports, the collapsed structure was a building under construction. A bystander at the site emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging the government and relevant agencies to take immediate action to rescue those trapped. “People are under this rubble. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” the individual stated in a video obtained by SaharaReporters.

This latest incident follows a previous collapse earlier in October, where emergency responders successfully rescued four individuals from a two-storey residential building that partially collapsed in Abuja.

The current collapsed building is situated near the popular Cupid Hotel on Cupid Road, Sultan Dasuki Way, in the Kubwa area of Abuja. In recent weeks, there have been multiple reports of construction-related incidents in the region, including a previous collapse at Nicholas Ukachukwu’s Praco Limited Estate in Guzape, where workers were feared dead.

Authorities are being urged to enhance safety measures and regulations in the construction sector to prevent further tragedies. As rescue efforts continue, the situation remains critical as families anxiously await news of their loved ones trapped beneath the rubble.
