VIDEO - Femi Falana Denies Involvement with Bobrisky, Plans Legal Action Over Defamation Claims

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has firmly denied any involvement with popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, after allegations surfaced regarding a supposed presidential pardon during Bobrisky’s time in Kirikiri prison.

This controversy began when social activist, Very Dark Man (VDM), released an audio recording allegedly involving Bobrisky. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that singer Falz had contacted him, suggesting that his father, Femi Falana, could secure him a presidential pardon for ₦10 million to clear his criminal record.

Following this, both Femi Falana and his son, Falz, through their legal representatives, demanded an immediate retraction and a public apology from VDM on all his platforms within 24 hours. VDM, however, maintained that his actions were not defamatory but were meant to prompt investigations into Bobrisky’s claims.

In an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today on October 3, Falana denied ever interacting with Bobrisky. He clarified that his son, Falz, had been approached by Bobrisky earlier in the year, requesting financial assistance to be moved to a VIP section of the prison. Falz refused, advising Bobrisky to only contact him through authorized prison channels.

Falana condemned the defamatory audio, stating, "I have never met Bobrisky. My son received a call, but he declined to assist with any bribery, and that was the last communication." He added that his family will initiate civil proceedings to restore their reputations if the retraction and apology are not provided.

Falana emphasized that his intention is not to file a criminal complaint but to seek civil action to protect their integrity. He stated, "We want to make an example in this case to prevent individuals from defaming others on social media."

The case continues to unfold as Falana awaits a formal apology.
