The newly elected Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has removed the name of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, from the council’s administrative block. Wike, who hails from Rumuepirikom in Obio Akpor and is a former chairman of the local council, previously had his name prominently displayed on the council's administrative building.
Ihunwo explained that Wike has brought significant challenges to the local government and decided to replace his name with that of the late Obi Wali, a respected politician and activist in Rivers State. In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), Ihunwo announced, "We have changed Wike’s name on the admin block of Obio/Akpor Council and replaced it with the name of SENATOR DR. OBI WALI."
Chijioke Ihunwo, along with 22 other newly elected local government chairpersons, was recently sworn in by Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following their election during the Rivers local council election.
