VIDEO - Wike Blames Governor Fubara for Political Unrest in Rivers State

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has held Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, responsible for the ongoing political unrest in the state. Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Wike accused Fubara of inciting violence by pushing forward with local government elections, despite legal challenges.

Wike stated, "No person who believes in peace and stability of any nation will support violence, destruction, or a refusal to let people live in harmony." He stressed the need to understand the underlying issues behind the unrest, emphasizing that disrespecting the rule of law breeds chaos. "When there’s violence or instability, you need to ask what caused it. Disregarding court rulings is a direct path to anarchy," Wike said.

The minister referred to a recent statement by Governor Fubara, where Fubara allegedly undermined the authority of court judgements. Wike warned that such behavior invites lawlessness, particularly when a leader dismisses the need for police protection. "When someone says he doesn’t need the police, he is inviting anarchy. The governor is the architect of the violence," Wike declared.

These remarks come amid rising tensions in Rivers State, as both leaders remain in a heated dispute over governance and the recent elections.
