Yoruba Leader Gani Adams Files ₦5 Billion Lawsuit Against Sunday Igboho Over Alleged Privacy Violation

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has initiated a ₦5 billion lawsuit against Yoruba Nation activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in the Oyo State High Court. Adams accuses Igboho of unlawfully recording and distributing a private phone conversation without permission, an act Adams claims has seriously damaged his reputation.

Filed under suit number M/1006/2024, Adams seeks to protect his fundamental rights under Section 37 of Nigeria's 1999 Constitution, which upholds the right to privacy. His legal team argues that Igboho’s actions were “unlawful, illegal, and unconstitutional,” calling them "reckless and damaging" to his esteemed role as the Aare Ona Kakanfo.

According to Adams, the recording was publicly shared on social media in April 2024, resulting in “serious embarrassment” and violating his privacy. Adams seeks exemplary damages of ₦5 billion to redress the harm caused by this alleged violation.
