Dangote Refinery Dismisses Claims of Selling Petrol Above N1,000 per Litre as "Fake News"

Dangote Refinery has strongly refuted recent claims that it is selling petrol at prices ranging from N1,015 to N1,028 per litre. The company addressed the allegations on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, labeling the reports as "fake news."

The controversy arose after some oil marketers reportedly asserted that the refinery's petrol prices exceeded those of imported fuel, which had a landing cost of approximately N978.01 per litre as of October 31, 2024. The marketers suggested that it would be more cost-effective to import fuel due to the alleged high rates from Dangote Refinery.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) added to the discussion, with National Assistant Secretary Yakubu Suleiman expressing concerns during an interview on Arise Television. Suleiman remarked that IPMAN would source fuel from wherever the price is more affordable to ensure profitability while keeping Nigerians’ interests in mind.

The Dangote Group, however, dismissed these assertions, maintaining that such claims are unfounded. The company’s response reflects its stance on the matter as it aims to address any misconceptions regarding its pricing strategy in the Nigerian fuel market.
