Edu Gaspar Resigns as Sporting Director of Arsenal Football Club

Arsenal Football Club has announced that Edu Gaspar has stepped down from his role as Sporting Director, effective November 4. The club released a statement on its official website confirming the news.

"Edu Gaspar has today resigned from his position as our Sporting Director," the club stated. "Edu, a former player and member of the Invincibles, re-joined Arsenal as Technical Director in July 2019. He was later promoted to Sporting Director in November 2022, where he played a vital role overseeing men's, women's, and academy football."

Arsenal expressed gratitude for Edu's contributions to the club's renewed football strategy and his commitment to its values.

In his remarks regarding his resignation, Edu reflected on the difficulty of his decision. "Arsenal has given me the opportunity to work with so many amazing people and to be part of something special in the club's history," said the former midfielder, who won the Premier League title with Arsenal in 2002 and 2004. "It has been a special journey, and I thank Stan, Josh, Tim, and Lord Harris for their support."

He went on to commend his colleagues across the men's, women's, and academy teams, particularly highlighting his friendship with head coach Mikel Arteta. "Now it is time to pursue a different challenge. Arsenal will always remain in my heart. I wish the club and its supporters only good things and all the very best," he added.

Josh Kroenke, Co-Chair of Arsenal, acknowledged Edu's contributions, stating, "We respect Edu's decision and thank him for his immense contribution and dedication to driving the club forward. Everyone at the club wishes him well. We are all fond of him and the positive energy he brings."

Kroenke also emphasized the club's focus on its ongoing strategy and ambition to win major trophies, assuring that a succession plan would be implemented to reflect this commitment to progress.
