Reality TV icon and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian recently made headlines with her public debut of the Amethyst Cross necklace, a piece famously worn by Princess Diana in 1987. Nearly two years after purchasing the stunning Attallah Cross necklace at auction, Kardashian chose the 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles to showcase the historic pendant for the first time.
Kardashian paired the ornate, gemstone-studded cross with a striking ivory gown featuring a plunging neckline. She added a touch of Diana-inspired elegance with an ivory choker reminiscent of one worn by the late princess. Created by renowned jeweler Garrard, the pendant is crafted from white gold and silver, set with amethysts and diamonds, reflecting a Renaissance-inspired design from the early 20th century. The cross was originally named after Naim Attallah, who frequently loaned it to Princess Diana for various events.
The amethyst cross holds a special place in royal history, with Diana famously donning the pendant during a 1987 charity gala. Kardashian updated the look by shortening the necklace’s pearl chain and stacking it with a layered six-strand pearl choker, adding her own modern twist to the classic piece. Instead of matching her outfit to the amethyst’s vibrant hue, Kardashian allowed the necklace to stand out as a bold pop of color against her all-white ensemble.
By breathing new life into this legendary piece, Kardashian continues to honor Princess Diana’s timeless style while making a unique fashion statement of her own.
