In a politically charged incident just days before the presidential election, New York author Robert Yott, 60, allegedly assaulted a man for wearing a “Trump 2024” hat, police reported. The incident occurred on Friday morning at a Tops Friendly Markets in the village of Bath.
According to authorities, Yott confronted the Trump supporter in the supermarket before reportedly striking him multiple times in the mouth and head, resulting in broken teeth and a bloody mouth. The Bath Village Police Department described the attack as an unprovoked act of violence, indicating there was no prior interaction between the two men.
Following the alleged assault, Yott was arrested and charged with second-degree assault—a felony—and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Known locally for his work as a military history author, Yott’s actions have caught attention amid already heightened political tensions across the country.
As Election Day approaches, with Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris vying for the presidency, incidents like this reflect the growing divide among voters and the intensity surrounding political symbols. The incident underscores the charged atmosphere as Americans head to the polls.
