Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede has officially taken on the role of acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS) following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 30. He will serve in this capacity until the return of the incumbent COAS, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who is currently receiving medical treatment abroad.
Prior to this appointment, Major General Oluyede held the position of the 56th Commander of the Nigerian Army's elite Infantry Corps, based in Jaji, Kaduna. At 56 years old, Oluyede is a seasoned military leader and a course mate of Lagbaja, both being graduates of the 39th Regular Course. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992, with effective service dating back to 1987, and he attained the rank of Major General in September 2020.
Throughout his military career, Oluyede has held numerous significant commands. His early roles included serving as a Platoon Commander and adjutant at the 65 Battalion, a Company Commander at the 177 Guards Battalion, a Staff Officer in the Guards Brigade, and Commandant of the Amphibious Training School.
Oluyede is married and has three children, adding a personal dimension to his distinguished military service as he steps into this pivotal role within the Nigerian Army.
