Businesswoman and former wife of football star Jude Ighalo, Sonia, has publicly criticized Equatorial Guinea authorities for leaking private videos of Baltasar Engonga, a senior anti-corruption official, who is currently under investigation for fraud. In a recent post on her Instagram stories, Sonia voiced her disapproval, asserting that if Engonga were to sue the government over the release of his private footage, he would have a strong case.
Engonga, who holds a prominent role in Equatorial Guinea's anti-corruption agency, became the subject of investigation when authorities raided his home in search of evidence related to alleged fraud. However, during the raid, investigators discovered explicit tapes showing Engonga with multiple women, some reportedly the wives of high-ranking government officials. These videos were subsequently released online, causing a public scandal.
Sonia condemned the decision to publish these private videos, arguing that law enforcement's actions were an invasion of privacy and an unjust addition to his legal troubles. "If he sues, he will definitely win," she stated, criticizing the investigators’ approach in handling the case.
The incident has ignited debates on privacy rights and the ethical responsibilities of law enforcement during investigations, with many questioning the appropriateness of exposing personal content irrelevant to the original case.
