Attorney Tony Buzbee Faces Legal Trouble Amid High-Profile Lawsuit Against Jay-Z and Diddy

Attorney Tony Buzbee, who is representing the anonymous plaintiff in the lawsuit against Jay-Z and Diddy, is now embroiled in a legal battle of his own. Former client Matthew Ray Thompson Jr. has filed a federal lawsuit accusing Buzbee of unethical practices during a personal injury case.

Thompson claims he was injured in July 2023 while working as a deckhand on a vessel that collided with a barge in the Houston Ship Channel. After hiring Buzbee to represent him, Thompson alleges that his employer made automatic payments related to the case. However, Thompson claims these payments were sent directly to Buzbee’s firm instead of to him.

The lawsuit further accuses Buzbee of disbursing the funds under exploitative conditions, alleging that the attorney loaned money to Thompson at high interest rates, leading to over 60% of his funds being withheld. Thompson also asserts that this is part of a broader pattern of behavior by Buzbee with other clients.

Though the lawsuit does not mention Jay-Z or Diddy explicitly, Thompson’s allegations appear to mirror those made by Jay-Z in a recent statement responding to the rape accusations against him. In his defense, Jay-Z accused Buzbee of using lawsuits as tools for extortion and exploiting reputational threats for financial gain.

Thompson echoed these claims, asserting that Buzbee has built his wealth by pressuring clients into settlements with threats of public damage to their reputations.

As Buzbee continues to represent the plaintiff in the high-profile case against Jay-Z and Diddy, the new lawsuit only intensifies the scrutiny surrounding the attorney. Buzbee has yet to respond publicly to the fresh legal allegations.
