Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been named as one of the final five nominees for the prestigious 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed the shortlist on Wednesday, December 4, showcasing some of the continent’s finest female football talent.
Nnadozie, who has consistently delivered stellar performances, is the only Nigerian to make it to the final five. Her compatriot, Raheedat Ajibade, who was included in the initial 10-player list, did not progress to the final stage.
Joining Nnadozie in the top five are Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga, Zambia’s Barbara Banda, and Morocco’s Sanaâ Mssoudy.
The announcement marks a significant shift in the competition, as this year’s award will see a new winner for the first time since 2018. Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala, who has dominated the title with six wins—including the last three consecutive editions—did not make the final list this time around.
The CAF Women’s Player of the Year award celebrates outstanding achievements in African women’s football, and Nnadozie’s inclusion highlights her vital contributions to the sport on the continent. The winner will be announced at the CAF Awards ceremony later this month.
