President-elect Donald Trump has announced Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and fiancĂ©e of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., as his pick for U.S. ambassador to Greece. The nomination, which will require Senate confirmation, highlights Trump’s pattern of appointing close allies and family connections to key roles in his administration.
In a statement, Trump described Guilfoyle as a trusted friend and ally. "Kimberly is perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation,” he said.
Guilfoyle expressed her gratitude for the nomination on social media, stating: “I’m honored to accept President Trump’s nomination to serve as the next Ambassador to Greece and I look forward to earning the support of the U.S. Senate.”
Guilfoyle, engaged to Trump Jr. since 2020, has been a prominent fundraiser and campaign surrogate for the former president. Before her political involvement, she worked as a prosecutor in California and later transitioned to television, serving as a host on Fox News until 2017.
While Guilfoyle has no prior experience in foreign policy or diplomacy, her nomination aligns with Trump’s recent appointments of close associates and family members to top posts. For example, Charles Kushner, father of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, has been nominated as ambassador to France, while Massad Boulos, father-in-law of Tiffany Trump, was named a Middle East adviser.
Guilfoyle’s career has not been without controversy. In 2020, a report in The New Yorker detailed allegations of sexual harassment made by a former assistant during Guilfoyle’s tenure at Fox News. While these allegations remain part of her public legacy, they did not deter her active involvement in Trump’s campaigns or her nomination to the ambassadorial role.
If confirmed, Guilfoyle will oversee U.S. diplomatic efforts in Greece, a nation with strategic importance in the Eastern Mediterranean. The role will involve managing defense cooperation, fostering economic ties, and advancing U.S. interests in the region.
Trump’s choice underscores his preference for loyalty and personal connections as he continues to assemble his administration ahead of his return to the White House.
