Donald Trump Slams Biden's Clemency for Death Row Inmates in Fiery Christmas Post

Former President Donald Trump issued a scathing Christmas Day post on his Truth Social platform, denouncing President Joe Biden's decision to commute the death sentences of 37 federal inmates. In the controversial message, Trump wished ill upon those granted clemency, saying, “GO TO HELL!”

The Biden administration announced the commutations on Monday, reducing the sentences of 37 out of 40 death row inmates to life imprisonment without parole. Biden cited his opposition to the death penalty as the driving force behind the decision, stating, “I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level.” However, three individuals convicted of terrorism and hate crimes, including Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were excluded from the clemency.

Trump, an ardent supporter of capital punishment, lashed out at Biden in his post, accusing him of pardoning “the most violent criminals, who killed, raped, and plundered like virtually no one before them.” The former president previously reinstated federal executions during his tenure after a 17-year hiatus, overseeing more executions than the past 10 administrations combined.

In his Christmas message, Trump also extended derisive greetings to several political figures and nations, mocking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor Trudeau” and suggesting that Canada join the United States as its “51st state.” He claimed this would reduce Canadian taxes by 60% and double the size of its businesses.

Biden’s move to halt federal executions has been met with praise from human rights advocates, including Martin Luther King III, who highlighted the racial disparities in the use of the death penalty. According to the Death Penalty Information Center, 38% of the commuted sentences involved Black individuals, underscoring the systemic inequities in the justice system.

Critics of Trump’s response argue that his rhetoric undermines the humanitarian motivations behind Biden’s decision. However, Trump’s base has applauded his unwavering stance on law and order, framing it as a commitment to justice.

In the same post, Trump made inflammatory remarks about international affairs, sarcastically addressing “Chinese troops illegally operating the Panama Canal” and reiterating his controversial proposal to purchase Greenland from Denmark. He also suggested a grassroots campaign to encourage retired Canadian hockey star Wayne Gretzky to run for office, though Gretzky reportedly expressed no interest.

The clash between Trump’s hardline policies and Biden’s more reformative approach to justice reflects the deep ideological divide shaping the U.S. political landscape as Trump prepares to reenter the White House.
