Famous Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has emerged victorious in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency parliamentary election, defeating incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Dumelo, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was declared the winner following the general elections held on December 7, 2024.

The actor won with a total of 40,561 votes, while Alhassan, who had previously held the seat, secured 27,377 votes. This victory marks a significant political milestone for Dumelo, who had contested for the same seat in the 2020 elections but narrowly lost to Alhassan.

Dumelo, who began his acting career in 1991 while still in school, is well-known for his roles in both Ghanaian and Nigerian (Nollywood) films. His victory in the parliamentary election highlights his growing influence beyond the entertainment industry and his commitment to serving the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon.

With this win, Dumelo is now set to represent his constituency in the Ghanaian parliament, marking a new chapter in his political journey.
