In the absence of Biafra Prime Minister Simon Ekpa, turmoil has engulfed the struggle for freedom. Dr. Ngozi Orabuaeze, the Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, was overwhelmingly chosen by the Biafra people as the Deputy Prime Minister in Ekpa’s absence. Additionally, the Prime Minister had instructed that Dr. Orabuaeze take charge and pilot the affairs of the Biafra government during his absence.
Following the widespread news of the Prime Minister’s absence, Dr. Orabuaeze stepped forward, rallying the spirit of the Biafra people, which ultimately led them to Lahti, Finland, where the United States of Biafra was declared. After the success of this convention, the Biafra people were looking to lobby the international community for recognition.
However, Oge Nkere, the former Minister of Finance in the previous government-in-exile before the re-declaration of the United States of Biafra, reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the idea that Dr. Orabuaeze was representing the Prime Minister. Sources indicate that Nkere viewed it as a taboo for a woman to lead him.
With support from the media team, Nkere launched a large-scale disinformation campaign against Dr. Orabuaeze, aided by the ex-Minister of Information and his deputy. Through emotional blackmail and a strong following, they successfully created division within the movement, reportedly in an effort to position Nkere for power. Allegations also suggest that Nkere used financial incentives to persuade individuals to support his claims.
Nkere further asserted that he had communicated directly with Prime Minister Simon Ekpa and even presented the Prime Minister’s civil lawyer to publicly declare that Nkere was the anointed leader. In response, Dr. Orabuaeze released a recording in which the same civil lawyer allegedly confirmed that Simon Ekpa had entrusted her with leadership and that she knew what steps to take.
A message attributed to Simon Ekpa states:
“PM Obataobie Simon Ekpa has told Dr. Orabuaeze, and by extension Biafrans, to specifically protect the mandate – the United States of Biafra and the New Dimension Mandate. (Listen to the voice conversation between Dr. Orabuaeze and the same woman.)”
In the recording, Odogwu reportedly told the woman: “She, Dr. Orabuaeze, will understand what he, Odogwu, meant.”
Dr. Orabuaeze is heard responding: “I know what he meant.”
Observers note that divisions within the movement remain, with some asserting that “the woman and those leading her do not know or understand the depth of Obataobie and Biafra.”
Despite the internal conflict, supporters of the government-in-exile reaffirm their commitment, stating:
“We have ONLY one government – the United States of Biafra – and we are doing GREAT.”
As tensions persist, the future direction of the Biafra movement remains uncertain.
