The clash inside Trump’s administration spilled into public view after the president claimed Tylenol use in pregnancy causes autism — a claim experts say is unfounded.
Dr. Mehmet Oz, now head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, went on TMZ Live to stress that acetaminophen remains one of the safest options for pregnant women battling fevers. “Take it when it’s appropriate,” Oz said, calling Tylenol “probably your best option” in many cases.
The president made his remarks at a press conference alongside Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has long pushed fringe theories about autism. But major studies show no link between acetaminophen use in pregnancy and autism diagnoses, with genetics and birth complications considered far more significant factors.
Medical experts are now warning that Trump’s claims could spread fear and guilt among mothers while sparking lawsuits against Tylenol’s makers.
