NBA champ Michael Porter Jr. might have one of the league’s fattest contracts, but even he’s still splitting rent — with an ex.
The former Denver Nuggets star, who was traded to the Brooklyn Nets in June, revealed on Respectfully The Justin Laboy Show that he continues to cover half the rent for a former girlfriend.
The twist? They broke up months ago.
Porter said he encouraged his girlfriend to get an apartment outside her price range, promising he’d help cover costs for a year. His reasoning: he wanted to test whether she was truly with him “for the right intentions.”
“It’s very hard when you have money to tell a woman’s intentions,” Porter explained. “Every dude in this person’s past had money. I never wanted to feel like a girl was just with me because of what I have.”
Though the relationship ended five months in, Porter said he keeps paying his share because he caused the breakup.
This is coming from a player who signed a five-year extension worth up to $207 million in 2021. The Nets now hold the final two years of that deal — $38.3 million this season and $40.8 million the next.
On the court, Porter’s game has been worth the money. He started 77 games last season for Denver, averaging 18.2 points per game — one of his best years yet.
Off the court, though, the $200 million man is still out here splitting rent with his ex.
