Arkansas Man Faces Felony Charge for Racially Motivated Assault

An Arkansas man is facing a Class D felony after allegedly using a racial slur and assaulting another man with a heavy chain, authorities said.

Tanner Chase Thomas Bobbitt, 22, is charged with second-degree battery in connection with an incident on Oct. 17 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. According to court documents cited by KAIT, the victim told police he was riding his bike to a friend’s house when Bobbitt suddenly called him the N-word and issued a threat. When confronted, Bobbitt allegedly pulled a 1.5-foot metal log chain from his jacket and struck the victim in the head, causing an actively bleeding laceration.

Police noted that Bobbitt admitted to using the racial slur and hitting the man, but claimed he was provoked. He was booked into the Craighead County Detention Center, with bail set at $20,000.

This is not Bobbitt’s first run-in with the law. Last year, he faced felony charges for allegedly stabbing a homeless man with a screwdriver. During that investigation, Bobbitt claimed he was attacked with a machete, but police noted that blisters on his heels were consistent with footwear, not a machete strike.

The case highlights Bobbitt’s pattern of violent behavior and ongoing legal troubles, with racial intimidation now at the center of the latest charges.
