A 65-year-old Connecticut woman, Michelle Yeagher, is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing a man inside her Killingly home late Monday night — while he was watching Toy Story with a 12-year-old child.
According to Connecticut State Police, officers responded to a call around 9:31 p.m. at a home on Pratt Road, where they found Andrew Michael Olson, 39, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Olson was rushed to Day Kimball Hospital but did not survive.
The 12-year-old child, who was present during the shooting, told investigators that Olson had been watching the Pixar movie with them when Yeagher suddenly entered the room and opened fire.
Yeagher was later found in bed and appeared to be highly intoxicated. When questioned, she reportedly told officers she didn’t know where she had placed the gun used in the shooting.
“He tried to kill me. I shot him. He came after me, I shot him,” Yeagher initially told police, according to a report from Law & Crime.
She claimed that Olson had come at her and that she struggled to unlock her gun safe before firing the weapon. However, the child’s account of events did not match Yeagher’s story, and police say her version of what happened changed multiple times during questioning.
Yeagher was taken from the home on a stretcher around 11:30 p.m. and later told investigators that she had been drinking heavily that night due to “various issues.” She claimed to have woken up “scared,” retrieved her gun, and blacked out — only regaining awareness when she heard Olson in distress.
Police say she then found Olson on the ground but could not recall what had happened.
Yeagher now faces several serious charges, including murder, carrying a firearm while under the influence, risk of injury to a child, and reckless endangerment in the first degree. She is being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 11.
Authorities have not released details on how Yeagher, Olson, and the child were related. The identity of the 12-year-old has been withheld, and investigators have not yet explained why the group was at Yeagher’s house that night.
Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been launched to help cover Olson’s funeral expenses. The organizer described him as “a kind, generous man, and a loving father, son, brother, and friend” who “would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought.”
“He was so deeply loved by everyone who knew him,” the statement reads. “His absence has left an emptiness that can never be filled.”
As investigators work to uncover what led to the shocking killing, one thing is clear — a child has been left traumatized, a family shattered, and a community searching for answers in the wake of an inexplicable tragedy.
