Mike Tyson in $20M Copyright Showdown Over Rare Jay-Z, DMX & Ja Rule Track

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is facing a major lawsuit from music producer Ty Fyffe, who claims the boxing icon used his 1998 track “Murdergram” without permission in a social media promo for Tyson’s November 2024 fight against Jake Paul.

The song — a rare collaboration between Jay-Z, DMX, and Ja Rule — was allegedly featured in a now-deleted 33-second Instagram training clip captioned, “You know what time it is #PaulTyson.” Fyffe says neither he nor his team approved the usage and accuses Tyson of creating a false impression of endorsement.

According to court filings, Fyffe argues the promo helped boost the fight’s record-breaking Netflix audience of over 100 million, enhancing Tyson’s merchandise and cannabis sales, and contributing to his reported $20 million fight payday. The producer is seeking a share of those earnings, plus royalties, citing intentional copyright infringement.

Jake Paul ultimately won the bout by majority decision.
