A man named Abiodun Akinyemi has approached the Mapo Grade'A' Customary Court in Ibadan, seeking a divorce from his estranged wife, Christina, due to the unbearable misery she has brought into his life.
During his testimony before the court, Akinyemi, a resident of Olodo, expressed his distress, stating, "I had no choice but to seek refuge in my church when the misery became unbearable."
"My lord, life has been incredibly difficult for me in the past 18 years since I got married to Christiana. She frequently visits my workplace to cause chaos and harass me," he explained.
"In order to avoid any violent confrontations, I decided to leave home and take shelter in the church. However, Christiana did not cease her efforts to disturb and fight me," Akinyemi continued.
"To make matters worse, Christiana has made repeated attempts to harm me, and I am no longer interested in maintaining this marriage," he pleaded with the court. "I kindly request custody of our four children and for her to be ordered to leave my house."
Responding to the allegations, Christiana argued that her husband was grossly irresponsible. As a caterer, she revealed, "My husband informed me that his pastor blamed me for his miseries and problems."
"Furthermore," she added, "he has neglected to pay the children's school fees. I visited Akinyemi's office because he had been unresponsive for an extended period, and the children required certain necessities."
Having heard the testimonies from both parties, the court's President, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, advised the plaintiff and the respondent to maintain peace and order. The case was adjourned until August 3 for the judgment.
