CAF Announces Dates for AFCON and WAFCON 2025 in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the dates for the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to be held in Morocco.

The CAF Executive Committee confirmed the dates during a meeting on Friday. AFCON is scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The Women's tournament, initially planned for this year, has been rescheduled to run from July 5 to July 26, 2025.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe explained that the delay in announcing the dates was due to the complexities of the global football calendar. He expressed optimism that the tournaments in Morocco would be historic for the continent.

“The announcement of the dates for the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 took longer than expected due to complex and sometimes challenging discussions with various stakeholders, considering the extensive international and domestic match calendars," Motsepe said.

“CAF is committed to protecting and advancing the interests of African players in football clubs worldwide. We aim to build mutually beneficial relationships with the ECA, UEFA, other football confederations, and FIFA. We will continue to ensure that African football remains globally competitive and among the best in the world,” he added.
