Roberto Baggio Injured During Armed Robbery at His Home in Italy

Former world player of the year, Roberto Baggio, was injured during a robbery at his home in northern Italy and required hospital treatment.

Italian media reported that five armed men broke into the 57-year-old’s villa near Vicenza on Thursday while he was watching Italy's 1-0 European Championship defeat to Spain on television with his family.

One of the robbers struck Baggio in the head with a rifle butt as he tried to defend himself.

"Fortunately, the violence I suffered only resulted in stitches, bruises, and a lot of fear," Baggio told the ANSA news agency on Friday.

The intruders locked Baggio and his family in a room before ransacking the house, stealing watches, jewelry, and money.

After the thieves fled, Baggio managed to break down the door and alert the police.

Aside from Baggio, who was the 1993 World Player of the Year and a 1994 World Cup runner-up, no one else was injured.
