Nigeria's Chukwuebuka Enekwechi Strikes Gold at 2024 African Athletics Championship


 Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Nigeria secured the first gold medal at the 2024 African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon. Enekwechi dominated the men's shot put event, setting a new championship record with a throw of 21.20 meters.

This victory marks Enekwechi's third consecutive African Championship title in shot put, following his previous wins in Asaba and Mauritius. He now shares the record for the most gold medals won by a male shot putter in the history of the championship.

In the women's discus throw, Ashley Anumba also clinched a gold medal for Nigeria. Anumba's final throw of 59.30 meters secured her the top position, while her compatriot Obiageri Amaechi claimed the silver medal with a throw of 58.80 meters. Chioma Onyekwere finished in third place.
