Prime Minister Narendra Modi Resigns as Part of Protocol Ahead of New Government Formation

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, following his cabinet's recommendation to dissolve the lower house of parliament, Lok Sabha.

President Murmu accepted Modi's resignation along with that of the council of ministers. She requested Modi to continue serving as the prime minister until a new government is formed, according to an official from the President’s House.

This resignation is part of the formal protocol observed before the establishment of a new government.

The Election Commission of India released official data early Wednesday, indicating that the ruling National Democratic Alliance, led by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, is set to form the next government.
