Sophia Momodu has responded to the lawsuit filed against her by singer Davido. The two share a daughter, Imade Adeleke.
Davido, through his lawyers Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others, had approached the Lagos State High Court seeking joint custody of their daughter, alleging that Sophia denied him access to Imade.
In a statement dated June 22, 2024, issued by her legal representatives Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co., Sophia refuted these claims, stating that Davido chose not to see Imade since July 2022. She emphasized that the only thing she denied Davido was her body and intimacy, asserting that their relationship ended in July 2022.
Sophia detailed that from 2014 to 2017 and 2020 to 2022, during their relationship, Davido provided financial support for their daughter, including school fees, rent, and living expenses. However, she ended the relationship in July 2022, after which Davido allegedly threatened to make her life difficult if she did not continue being intimate with him.
Sophia's statement also highlighted that Davido has not made any effort to contact or support their daughter emotionally since July 2022, missing significant occasions like her birthday and Christmas. She criticized him for posting images of Imade on social media, portraying a false image of an active father.
Furthermore, Sophia claimed that since July 2022, Davido has neglected his financial responsibilities, leaving her to cover all expenses, including school fees, which were eventually paid by Davido’s father after legal intervention. She asserted that the most crucial support Davido could provide is his presence and emotional involvement.
Sophia also noted that she had attempted to establish a formal co-parenting arrangement two years ago, but Davido and his lawyers refused to cooperate, using his social influence to discredit her. She insisted that she never denied Davido access to their daughter, only to herself, which he resented.
Sophia concluded by expressing her faith in the justice system and her commitment to the legal process, hoping for a positive outcome that ensures Davido's active participation in their daughter’s life.
