2Baba Reflects on Relevance and Musical Journey Amid Afrobeats Evolution

Legendary Nigerian musician, Innocent Ujah Idibia, known as 2Baba, recently affirmed his continued relevance in the music industry despite the rise of new Afrobeats artists. He emphasized that his and his peers' sacrifices were instrumental in elevating Afrobeats to its current global prominence.

In an interview with AFRIMMA, the iconic "African Queen" singer advised young artists to trust the journey rather than seeking immediate success. He pointed to Burna Boy as an example, highlighting Burna's path from performing in small venues to eventually selling out Madison Square Garden.

"Burna Boy sells out Madison Square Garden and others think they’re at the same level, which is unrealistic," 2Baba remarked. "He knows the journey he undertook to reach where he is, starting from small venues and building a strong fan base. It’s a process that takes time."

Reflecting on his own journey, 2Baba asserted, "I am still very much relevant. I’m still here making good music." His words underscored his enduring impact and ongoing contribution to the music scene.
